Michael Knochenhauer

Director General at Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten

Michael Knochenhauer serves as the Director General and Acting Director General of Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten since May 2023. Prior to this, Michael held the position of Chairman of the SKC Advisory Council at SKC - Svenskt Kärntekniskt Centrum from June 2022 to May 2023 and worked as a Strategic Advisor at Michael Knochenhauer rådgivning AB from April 2022 to May 2023. Michael has extensive experience in the nuclear safety sector, having served as Director of the Department of Regulation and Knowledge Development and the Department of Nuclear Power Plant Safety at Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten from 2014 to 2021. Previous roles include Vice President and R&D Director at Lloyd's Register Consulting and Managing Director at Scandpower AB. Michael initiated a consultancy career focusing on nuclear and railway safety, with significant expertise reflected in positions held since 1989. Education includes a Master's degree in Engineering Physics from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, along with advanced courses in linguistics and strategic leadership from Stockholm University and Försvarshögskolan.
