Helena Merk has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Helena started their career at Bracket Computing as a Software Engineering Intern, where they focused on building an on-prem setup script using technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Golang. Helena then joined Duke Conservation Tech as a Conference Organizer for Blueprint and later worked as a Software Developer for Duke Reporter's Lab at Duke University. In this role, they developed fact-checking tools for reporters at CNN using the Claimbuster API and launched a beta Slack app.
Helena then transitioned to the tech industry, working as a Software Engineer at Smartcar and One Medical. At Smartcar, they were responsible for developing software, while at One Medical, they focused on computer security. Helena also had a role as a Lead Mobile App Developer at AdoptMeApp, where they single-handedly developed a content creation tool to increase adoption rates at animal shelters.
Helena's entrepreneurial ventures include co-founding and serving as CEO of three companies. Helena co-founded Glimpse, a remote team collaboration platform, during their time at Y Combinator. Helena then went on to co-found Spirals, a company focused on building transparency into voluntary carbon markets using blockchains.
