John Shaffer has a diverse work experience in marketing, communications, and media relations. John most recently worked as the Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications for the Stroum Jewish Community Center of Greater Seattle, where they were responsible for creating brand awareness and developing strategic marketing plans. Prior to that, they owned JDMS Creations, where they utilized their expertise in photography, creative design, and digital media to build relationships and support fundraising efforts. John also served as the Director of Media Relations for the Golden Coast Conference, managing public relations efforts and developing promotional materials. Before that, they worked as a Media Relations & Community Relations Officer for the Washington State Patrol and as the Manager of Public Relations & Social Media for Special Olympics Southern California. John began their career as the Associate Athletic Director - External Relations for Loyola Marymount University and as the Media Relations Manager for the Orange Bowl Committee.

John Shaffer attended Colorado Mesa University from 1992 to 1996, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies.

The Stroum Jewish Community Center offers a variety of programs and activities for the entire family—from newborns to seniors. The SJCC inspires to build community and ensure Jewish continuity through outstanding programs, partnerships, and spaces that welcome everyone to learn, grow, and celebrate together. The SJCC is a nonprofit organization that is open to everyone. Located on Mercer Island, the J is home to an Early Childhood School, Summer J Camp and a full line-up of J Kids programs, the largest fitness center on Mercer Island, an indoor pool, community engagement programs, arts and culture events, and so much more.
