Pamela Lavitt has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of arts and culture. Pamela currently holds the position of Director of Art+Ideas & Festivals at the Stroum Jewish Community Center of Greater Seattle, where they oversee various arts programs and festivals. Prior to this role, they served as the Director of the AJC Seattle Jewish Film Festival at AJC Global. Pamela has also worked as a Scholarly Researcher at the New York Jewish Museum and as an Adjunct Professor in Jewish and Women's Studies at the University of Washington. Additionally, they have held positions as an Oral Historian and Scholarly Researcher at the Jewish Women's Archive and as a Curator at the AJC Seattle Jewish Film Festival. Pamela has extensive experience in the field of academia, having served as an Adjunct Professor in Drama, English, and Writing Departments at New York University.
Pamela Lavitt has a diverse and extensive education history. Pamela obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Duke University between 1984 and 1988, majoring in Zoology, Political Science, and Women's Studies. Later, they pursued further education at New York University from 1992 to 2002, where they earned a Master of Arts (MA) and completed coursework for a PhD in the Tisch School of the Arts, specifically in the Department of Performance Studies. Their areas of focus during this time included Jewish Folklore, Theatre History, and Museums and Popular Culture. Additionally, they obtained a Yiddish Studies Summer Graduate Fellowship from Columbia University/YIVO Institute in 1997-1998, specializing in Yiddish Language, Literature, History, and Culture.
