You are about to commit a year of your life and a meaningful share of your net worth to a building. The question is not which architect has the prettiest portfolio. The question is who can keep you out of the most expensive mistakes a building owner makes.

That is what studio c does. We are a San Francisco architecture practice for commercial tenant improvement, custom homes, ADUs, and passive house design across the Bay Area. We charge for the early thinking that other firms give away, because that thinking is what makes the design contract real and what protects your construction budget downstream. Every project runs under one architect of record who sets the performance targets, directs the team, and reviews and stamps the drawings. The team scales to the project; the accountability does not move.

We also stay through construction. Construction documents lock down about two-thirds of the design decisions. The remaining third gets decided on site by whoever is there when the question comes up. studio c treats the builder as a partner whose craft and field experience improve the project. What we add during construction is a second professional voice that represents the design intent and the owner's long-term interest, coordinated with the structural, envelope, and mechanical consultants on the items that matter. The drawings get you the permit. Construction Administration is what gets you the building.

studio c is led by Benson Chen, AIA, CPHC, CPHD, LEED AP BD+C, California license C39449. Twenty years inside firms that design the world's most demanding buildings, including NBBJ, Gensler, Studios Architecture, and Project Frog. Now applied to your project, on your schedule, with one architect of record accountable for the result.

Inquiries begin with a free fifteen-minute call. Most clients pay for the site visit and the feasibility study before deciding whether to engage on full design. Some only need the feasibility to decide for themselves.
