Thomas W. Smith

VP, School Operations & Business Development at Suffolk Transportation Service

Raymond A. Grimaldi is the Vice President of Transit Operations and Corporate Fleet Maintenance for Suffolk Bus Corp (SBC) / Suffolk Transportation Service Inc. (STS) where he plays an instrumental management role with the Transit and Fleet Maintenance Divisions.

One of Ray’s primary responsibilities is the safe, efficient, and consistent operation of Suffolk County’s transit and para transit system, which transports nearly two million riders annually, including 600,000 of the county’s most fragile citizens.

Ray’s focus has always been to align the core values of the company with its diverse workforce of more than 2,800 dedicated men and women by providing valuable workshops, manuals and by constantly refining and improving the company’s various processes.

Prior to joining the executive team of SBC/STS in 2006, Ray was an instrumental leader at United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) for more than 20 years. He held many leadership positions at UPS, including his most rewarding experience as Division Manager of Operations for the Eastern Long Island District. While at UPS, Ray founded the concept of the TP-60, a 60 cubic foot package containment trailer that travels behind the main package car, allowing for additional containment space while reducing the need to increase the fleet size, which is used throughout the United States and Canada today.

Recently, Ray was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Bus Association of New York (BANY). Ray has served as Vice President on the board and was recently elected as Treasurer. Founded in 1938, BANY represents and promotes the interests of private bus operators and the association’s membership in the areas of transportation and transit-related services, products and technologies.
