SugaRich source downgraded and surplus foods from food manufacturers and retailers and process them into high energy biscuit meals, also known as food product blends, for sale to the animal feed industry. The products produced by SugaRich form one of many ingredients that go into the manufacture of these animal feeds. The raw materials for the process include cakes, chocolates, sweets, bread, breakfast cereals, crisps, biscuits, wet products such as bread dough and apple pommace, wheat feed and other similar products. These products may be: out of date; surplus to requirements; products from failed marketing campaigns; or out of specification, typically because they are either over or undercooked. SugaRich has extensive experience managing food waste streams from food manufacturers and retailers. During 2011, SugaRich handled over 500,000 tonnes from factories across the UK. This produced in the region of 400,000 tonnes of finished product which was sold into the UK feed industry.
