Joseph Zigmund Gmerek serves as a Law Enforcement Ranger Sergeant at Summit Metro Parks since January 2013. Prior experience includes serving in the United States Marine Corps from June 1998 to June 2004, where Joseph held the position of Sergeant E-5 and functioned as a Marine Reservist Field Radio Operator and Heavy Machine Gun Section Leader. Joseph is currently pursuing graduate credit hours towards a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership at Malone University, following the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice from The University of Akron in 2005.

Established in 1921, Summit Metro Parks celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2021. The park district manages more than 15,000 acres throughout 16 parks, three nature centers and over 150 miles of trails, including 22 miles of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
