Dan Fishbein is Executive Chair, Sun Life U.S., one of the largest providers of employee and government benefits, with approximately 50 million members. Dan assumed his current role on September 1, 2025, after serving 11 years as President, Sun Life U.S.
During his tenure as president, Dan transformed the company into a leader in health-related benefits and services that connect to the broader healthcare ecosystem, with a focus on helping people access the care and coverage they need.
Dan joined Sun Life in 2014 and oversaw several successful acquisitions that have grown the company and its capabilities, including DentaQuest (2022), PinnacleCare (2021), Maxwell Health (2018) and Assurant Employee Benefits (2016). The acquisition of DentaQuest made Sun Life the largest dental insurer in the U.S. by membership. Since 2014 Sun Life U.S. has grown four-fold to more than $8 billion in revenues.
As an insurance leader with a medical background, Dan has unique insight into the complex U.S. healthcare landscape. He has brought Sun Life further into the health space with services like care navigation, digital health programs, and clinical interventions that complement core health coverage. Dan is a passionate advocate for paid family and medical leave for all, mental health parity in disability insurance, and helping people return to health and productivity after an illness or injury.
After completing his medical degree Dan decided to pursue a career in health-related business. In his first role with MassMutual, he helped establish one of the first insurer physician and hospital networks. At New York Life, Dan broadened healthcare options for Maine and New England through NYLCare Health Plan of Maine. Before coming to Sun Life, he spent 16 years at Aetna leading health plans, product development and specialty businesses.
Dan earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston University, and Doctor of Medicine from BU’s School of Medicine (BUSM). He previously served on the Dean’s advisory board at BUSM. Dan is also a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and Maine Medical Association. He is a past chair and active board member of Spurwink Services in Portland, Maine, helping children and families access mental health and other support services.
