Robotics Systems Engineer at Sunflower Labs

Ricardo Marques is currently a Robotics Systems Engineer at Sunflower Labs and a Research Associate at Berner Fachhochschule BFH. From 2019 to 2021, they were a Robotics Team Lead and Robotics Engineer at Skypull, a Drone Developer at dronesolutions.io, a Flight Test Engineering Intern at Auterion, a Super Host at Airbnb, an Assistant Professor at Escola Naval and a Team Member in the Aerodynamics section of Projecto FST. At Skypull, they were responsible for the development of the entire UAV control team and system, for both low and high-level control. At dronesolutions.io, they developed simulation environments in Gazebo sim including custom plugin implementation and creation, developed and tested new flight software features and worked with C++, ROS and PX4. At Auterion, they created, executed and documented flight tests for new firmware features or UAV platforms, as well as developing and testing the fleet software release process. At Airbnb, they managed several apartments in the Greater Lisbon Area, including digital marketing, bookings management and maintenance of the spaces. At Escola Naval, they were an Assistant Professor in Programming subject (MATLAB) for students of first year of higher education in Portugal's Naval School. At Projecto FST, they were a team member of Aerodynamics section in local Formula Student team, participating in worldwide competitions of electric racing, and developed great teamworking skills, product development and dedication, as well as experience with high tech composites such as carbon fiber.

Ricardo Marques obtained a Master of Engineering - MEng in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico between 2012 and 2018. Ricardo also completed a Master's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from Aalto University between 2015 and 2016. In addition, they have obtained several certifications, including an Intro to Game Development with Unity from Zenva in July 2022, a Learn C++ Course from Codecademy in August 2021, a MOOC on Drone Control and Simulation from Instituto Superior Técnico in June 2018, a UAS Remote Pilot Open Category - A1+A3 from EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency in March 2021, a Certificate in Advanced English from University of Cambridge, and a Folding@home Donor from Foldingathome.
