Houman Lahiji

Program Manager at SunGrid

Houman Lahiji has a diverse work experience in the field of electrical engineering. Houman started their career at the University of Manitoba as a Research Assistant, where they designed and built an analog Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). Houman then moved on to s2e Technologies Inc. as an Engineering Intern, where they developed a detailed model of a smart hybrid DC-AC microgrid study system.

After that, Houman joined Western University as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant. As a Teaching Assistant, they administered office hours and supervised students in laboratory sessions. As a Research Assistant, they designed an improved decentralized control strategy for renewable energy resources in a medium-voltage microgrid.

Houman then joined Phoventus as an Electrical Engineer, where they performed technical due diligence on utility-scale and community solar projects. Houman also developed layouts and conducted energy production analysis for utility-scale solar projects. Additionally, they completed arc-flash and short circuit studies for a utility solar project.

Following their time at Phoventus, Houman worked at SunGrid as a Project Engineer and Program Manager. As a Project Engineer, they managed the engineering and construction of behind-the-meter battery energy storage projects. As a Program Manager, they led the design, integration, and commissioning efforts of containerized battery energy storage units.

Currently, Houman is working at Charge Solar as an Electrical Engineer, where they are involved in electrical engineering projects.

Houman Lahiji obtained a Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Western University, which they pursued from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Manitoba, where they studied from 2013 to 2016. In October 2022, they also obtained a certification as a Professional Engineer (PEng) from Professional Engineers Ontario.
