Allen Balian

Allen Balian is the Vice President – Corporate Engineering at Sunstone Hotel Investors. Allen has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, with a focus on engineering and property operations.

Balian began their career in 1982 as the Director of Engineering at Hyatt Hotels. In 1991, they were promoted to Senior Director of Engineering, a position they held for 12 years. In 2003, they left Hyatt to join The Irvine Company Apartment Communities as their VP Maintenance Operations. Balian spent 10 years at Irvine, overseeing capital improvements, acquisitions and due diligence, landscaping operations, water discharge and intrusion, purchasing and procurement, maintenance management systems, energy and asbestos management, reinvestments and renovations, and project management.

In 2013, Balian left Irvine to join Hilton Worldwide as their Director of Property Operations. Allen spent 14 months at Hilton before joining Sunstone Hotel Investors in 2014 as their Vice President – Corporate Engineering.

Allen Balian has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management from Pacific Western University. Allen also has a certification in energy management from the University of California, San Diego. In addition, they have an associate degree in heating and air conditioning from Indiana College. Allen is also certified as an engineering operations executive from the American Hotel and Motel Association.
