Jim Sprecher began their work experience in 1985 at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, where they held various roles including Supervising Engineer Electric T&D, San Francisco Gas and Electric Operations Manager, Principal Engineer, and Gas and Electric Strategic Material and Equipment Sourcing Manager. In 2010, they joined Sunverge Energy, Inc. as the VP Utility Interoperability Standards.

Jim Sprecher obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming between 1963 and 1967. Following this, they pursued further education at Santa Clara University and earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from 1988 to 1992.
