Solomon Syed

AVP for Communications and Marketing at SUNY Empire State College

Solomon Syed serves as assistant vice president for communications and marketing at SUNY Empire State College, where he is responsible for the college’s marketing, branding, media, and public relations.

Prior to joining SUNY Empire State College, Solomon Syed spent 12 years in television news, most recently as primetime anchor for Spectrum News and host of its weekly public affairs program, In Focus with Solomon Syed. At Spectrum News, he won two Associated Press awards for his coverage of the Dannemora prison break and the water contamination crisis in Hoosick Falls. His special "Outside the Wall: Going Inside the Dannemora Prison Break" was nominated for an Emmy award. Syed also has reporting experience in the Boston and Washington, D.C. markets.

Syed holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University. He earned his Juris Doctor degree at Quinnipiac University School of Law.
