Nic G.

Nic G. has a strong background in cloud engineering and infrastructure automation. They are currently working as a Staff Cloud Engineer at Great Expectations since June 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Preset as a Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer from October 2021 to June 2022.

Nic G. has an extensive work experience at American Family Insurance, where they served as a Principal Cloud Engineer from July 2017 to October 2021. In this role, they automated AWS for a Data Science focused team, maintained Terraform modules and chatops plugins for deploying development and production systems, and managed internal tools such as Gitlab, Artifactory, Consul, Vault, DataDog, and Kubernetes.

Before joining American Family Insurance, Nic G. worked as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at VMware from January 2017 to July 2017. They were responsible for maintaining an ELK stack running on Mesos for logging and metrics collection. Additionally, they supported Docker log and metric collection via telegraph and utilized Terraform and Jenkins for deployment automation.

Prior to their time at VMware, Nic G. worked at EMC as an Infrastructure Automation Engineer from October 2015 to November 2016. Their work primarily focused on deploying and maintaining a Mesos platform for a multi-datacenter exabyte-scale object storage platform. They also developed Mesos frameworks for Kafka and Exhibitor and implemented deployment automation tools for user consumption.

Earlier in their career, Nic G. held the position of Lead Infrastructure Engineer at Jack Henry & Associates from July 2010 to October 2015. In this role, they set up and maintained a stable hosting environment for various applications, including web applications, mobile app APIs, and backend systems. They led the migration from manual configurations to a Chef automated cluster of servers and later transitioned to Mesos and Docker.

Finally, Nic G. started their career as a System Administrator at Liquid Web from October 2009 to June 2010.

Nic G. started their education in 2005 at North Iowa Area Community College, where they pursued an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Mathematics Teacher Education. They completed their studies there in 2006. Following this, Nic enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Their time at the University of Northern Iowa spanned from 2006 to 2009.
