Steven Shipton

Technical Director at Supersolid

Steven Shipton has over 18 years of experience in the gaming industry. Steven began their career in 2002 at Morpheme Wireless as a Lead Programmer, developing eight commercial J2ME games. In 2006, they moved to Glu Mobile as a Senior 3D Game Developer, creating 3D versions of seven commercial J2ME mobile games. In 2009, Steven joined Playfish as a Technical Director Worldwide Studios, leading a core technology group and working with regional technical directors to drive client side technology, process and standards. In 2012, they became Technical Director at Electronic Arts (EA) in Japan, building a technology organisation of 15 persons and making key technology decisions. Since 2013, Steven has been Technical Director at Supersolid, creating authoritative back end (~30k lines of code) for Food Street (15m+ installs) in JavaScript ES5 using parse-server middleware on Heroku and MongoDB Atlas.

Steven Shipton's education history includes a PhD in Nonlinear Dynamics from The University of Manchester between 1997 and 2001, and a MSci in Physics from the University of Birmingham between 1993 and 1997. Steven also holds a number of certifications, including Essential Cloud Infrastructure: Core Services from Coursera obtained in October 2018, Getting Started with Google Kubernetes Engine from Coursera obtained in September 2018, Essential Cloud Infrastructure: Foundation from Coursera obtained in September 2018, Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals: Core Infrastructure from Coursera obtained in September 2018, and C100DBA: MongoDB Certified DBA Associate Exam from MongoDB, Inc. obtained in July 2016.
