Sean Chiao

Sean Chiao is the Group's Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors, Surbana Jurong Group, effective 1 April 2023.

Mr. Chiao has more than 35 years of experience in built environment consulting and global business leadership. Prior to this, Mr. Chiao held senior leadership positions at AECOM, one of the world’s largest infrastructure, design and engineering companies. He was Chief Executive, Buildings and Places, a global business line and in that capacity, led a team of over 10,000 covering a wide range of market sectors. Before that, Mr. Chiao served as AECOM’s President, of Asia Pacific where he oversaw its business operations in Greater China, Southeast Asia, India, Australia and New Zealand.

A passionate urbanist and firm advocate of collaboration to create holistic solutions, Mr Chiao has spearheaded iconic projects including the River of Life masterplan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the masterplan for Jinji Lake in Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou, China.

An advocate for inspiring future generations of talent, Mr. Chiao orchestrated a collaboration between AECOM and Harvard University Graduate School of Design, enabling students to explore topical urbanization issues and empowering them to envision tangible, holistic solutions.

Mr. Chiao is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a Global Trustee of the Urban Land Institute. He serves as a member of Harvard University’s Master in Design Engineering (MDE) External Advisory Board and a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council, at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Mr. Chiao holds a degree in architecture and a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the Graduate School of Design of Harvard University.
