Steven Hochstetler Shirk

Steven Hochstetler Shirk has a diverse work experience spanning multiple fields and industries. Steven Hochstetler started as an English teacher at LCC International University in 1991. Steven Hochstetler then worked at Mennonite Central Committee from 1995 to 2004, initially as a Peace Projects Coordinator in Moscow, Russia, and later as the Country Representative for the Former Soviet Union. At MCC, they built programs related to social service, economic development, peacebuilding, and theological education.

From 2004 to 2006, Steven worked as a Senior Editor and Senior Research Associate at the Public International Law and Policy Group. Steven Hochstetler also served as a Short Term Consultant for The World Bank and as a Sector Expert at Management Systems International, focusing on performance monitoring and evaluation in post-conflict societies, particularly in the education sector.

Steven's experience in international development continued with roles at Mennonite Central Committee and Mennonite Mission Network. At MCC, they served as a Consultant, Representative (Country Director) in Mozambique, and a member of the Guatemala/El Salvador Program Review. At Mennonite Mission Network, they held the position of Budget & Financial Manager, where they oversaw budget development, financial reporting, and compliance for international workers.

In their most recent position, Steven worked as a Business Systems Analyst at Goshen Community Schools from 2015 to 2019, where they focused on administrative systems. Steven Hochstetler also worked as a Business Analyst at Surf Internet, where they led the company's efforts to integrate business processes into NetSuite, an ERP/SRP package.

Throughout their career, Steven has demonstrated a strong background in financial management, budgeting, program development, and international relations. Steven Hochstetler has also gained experience in leadership, administration, and project management.

Steven Hochstetler Shirk has a Master of Science (MS) degree in International Development Management with a concentration in Conflict, Peacebuilding & Development from American University. Steven Hochstetler also took courses in peace theology, conflict & conciliation, and Eastern Christianity at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary. Additionally, they have a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History with a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Goshen College.
