Surge Institute
Janeen Lee is an experienced educational leader currently serving as Program Director for both Surge Fellowship Chicago and Surge Academy at the Surge Institute since October 2021. Prior to this role, Janeen held positions at Chicago Public Schools, including Social Science Manager and High School Social Science Specialist from 2016 to October 2021. Additional experience includes consulting for the Digital Youth Network, managing partnerships for VIF International Education, and serving as Social Studies Department Chair at Betty Shabazz International Charter School. Janeen began a teaching career as a Social Studies Teacher at North Lawndale College Prep and held an adjunct professor position at Dominican University. Educational qualifications include a Masters in Education Studies from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Michigan-Ford School of Public Policy, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and African American Studies from UCLA.
