Ulric Shannon Ma

Ulric Shannon MA, MAT, MBA serves as the Executive Director of the Surge Institute since October 2023, after previously holding significant leadership positions at AUSL, including Director of Purpose and Director of Partner Engagement, where efforts focused on reimagining educational experiences for underserved communities. Ulric's career encompasses various roles in educational organizations, including as a Fellow in the IMPACT Leadership Development Fellowship at the Chicago Urban League, and as a Surge Fellow at the Surge Institute. With prior experience as the Director of External Affairs and Head of Staff at Civitas Education Partners and Managing Director of Recruitment at Teach For America, Ulric has consistently demonstrated a commitment to enhancing educational leadership and community engagement. Educational credentials include multiple degrees in Political Science, Teaching, and Business Administration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and National Louis University.
