Functional Lead Opto-mechanical Design at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL)

Dr. Diego Angarita-Jaimes has work experience in both industry and academia. Dr. Diego worked at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) from 2012, where they initially served as an Opto-Mechanical Engineer, responsible for the design and delivery of optical payloads. Dr. Diego used Solidworks for component design and Ansys Mechanical and Sigfit for various analyses. Later, they became the Functional Lead for Opto-Mechanical design.

Prior to that, they worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds from 2009 to 2012. During this time, they focused on optical measurements and the development of optical systems for various applications, including a jet impactor for Diesel engine treatment and a novel optical system for shape measurement.

Dr. Diego Angarita-Jaimes, CEng MIMechE, earned their BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes in 1999-2003. Dr. Diego then pursued their Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at UCL in 2005-2006. In 2006-2010, Dr. Angarita-Jaimes completed their PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds. In 2016, they obtained the professional certification of Chartered Engineer from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
