Makiko K. has a diverse and extensive work experience. Makiko started their career as a Graduate Analyst at HSBC in 2002 and went on to hold various roles including Rates Trader, International Equities Sales, and Director of Debt Capital Markets. At HSBC, they originated cross-border debt issuance, introduced new financing ideas including ESG-themed bonds, and advised on JPY financing for non-Japanese issuers. Makiko joined Mizuho in 2019 as Director of the Investment Banking Business Department, where they managed the global investment banking business franchise and coordinated stakeholder relationships for ESG/sustainable financing. Makiko also had a concurrent position in the D&I promotion team. Makiko further expanded their skills as a Strategic Account Relationship Manager at S&P Global before joining Morningstar Sustainalytics as Director of Client Relations in 2023.

Makiko K. holds an MSc in Environmental Assessment & Evaluation from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), which was obtained from 2000 to 2002. Makiko also has a BA in Political Studies from Gakushuin University, attained from 1996 to 2000. Additionally, Makiko K. pursued Social Studies at the University of Nottingham as part of a JYA program from 1998 to 1999. Makiko has obtained several certifications, including a Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute in 2022 and a Certificate in Securities and Financial Derivatives from The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI) in 2002. Makiko has obtained other qualifications related to finance, management, and business operations from various institutions throughout their career.
