Michael Baumer

Michael Baumer, PhD, is an accomplished data science professional with extensive experience in machine learning and astrophysics. Currently serving as the Director of Data Science at Swayable since August 2022, Michael previously held the role of Co-Founder and Lead ML Scientist at Unknot Inc., where focus was on angel-backed computer vision research for real-time video understanding. As a Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Fellow at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Michael constructed policy briefings addressing critical technology issues. Michael's PhD research at Stanford University involved developing a distributed Bayesian inference pipeline to analyze astronomical datasets, and earlier work at CERN included designing a framework for detecting new physics in high-energy collision data. Michael holds a PhD in Physics from Stanford University, an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, and dual degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Chicago.
