Chris Bockey

Visual Resources Director at SWCA

Chris Bockey has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Chris began their career in the United States Army, serving as an Infantryman and Ceremonial Guard for the prestigious Presidential Honor Guard. After their military service, Chris worked as a Firefighter/EMT for the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue, where they supervised daily station activities and directed fire and rescue operations.

Chris then transitioned to a role as a Field Logistics Assistant with IAP Worldwide Services, where they dispatched and tracked goods and supplies for areas affected by Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Chris later joined Nissan Technical Center North America as a Proving Ground Operations Technician, responsible for overall proving ground readiness and providing instruction for drivers.

In 2008, Chris worked as a Landscape Designer with Corral Dybas Group, Inc., where they prepared landscape architectural and planning documents, conducted field surveys, and created landscape graphics. Chris then moved to Logan Simpson, where they served as a Senior Environmental Planner and later as the Director of Environmental Services/Senior Planner. In these roles, they managed various environmental planning projects, including visual and scenic resource analysis, wildfire planning, and travel management.

Currently, Chris is employed at SWCA Environmental Consultants. Chris started as a Lead Environmental Planner and was later promoted to Principal Environmental Planner, National Visual Resources Lead. In their current role as Visual Resources Director, Chris oversees visual resource inventories and collaborates with government agencies to analyze visual and scenic impacts for infrastructure projects, including renewable energy initiatives.

Throughout their career, Chris has developed expertise in environmental planning, project management, and landscape design. Their experience in the military and emergency services has also honed their leadership and decision-making skills.

Chris Bockey obtained a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture degree from Arizona State University, where they studied from 2006 to 2009. In addition to their formal education, Chris also holds certifications in Master Project Management from AAPM® American Academy of Project Management® (obtained in July 2018) and Assessing Wildfire Hazards in the Home Ignition Zone from NFPA (obtained in March 2015).
