Simon King

Assistant Project Ecologist at SWCA

Simon King has extensive experience in the field of ecology and environmental consulting. Simon is currently working as an Assistant Project Ecologist at SWCA Environmental Consultants, where they specialize in wetland/waterway delineations, threatened and endangered species work, and environmental permitting. Simon has worked on projects ranging from natural gas pipelines to solar and mining. Simon also has a strong background in herpetology, including species-specific surveys, radiotelemetry, and habitat assessments.

Prior to their current role, Simon worked for four years as an Ecologist and Natural Resource Scientist at TRC Companies, Inc. During this time, they conducted wetland and waterway delineations, habitat assessments for threatened and endangered species, and various assessments for projects across the eastern US and Midwest.

Simon's work experience also includes a role as a Post-baccalaureate Research Intern at Archbold Biological Station. Here, they conducted research on Gopher Tortoises, performing radio-telemetry tracking and demographic monitoring, surveys, and hydrologic monitoring. Simon also assisted with prescribed burns and conducted a study on nest-site selection in Gopher Tortoises using radio-telemetry data and ArcGIS.

Throughout their career, Simon has demonstrated a strong passion for ecology and environmental conservation, utilizing their expertise to contribute to various research and consulting projects.

Simon King attended Appalachian State University from 2012 to 2016. During this time, they pursued a degree in Biology with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology, with a specific focus on Herpetology.
