Karel van der Waarde

Karel van der Waarde is an accomplished academic and consultant specializing in graphic design with extensive experience spanning various institutions. Currently serving as a Lecturer at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts since July 2020, Karel also holds a position as an Adjunct Professor of Visual Communication at Swinburne University of Technology and engages in consultancy and research in the field of graphic design since 1995. Prior roles include Lecturing at Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW, Senior Lecturer at Loughborough University, and serving as a Life Fellow at the Communication Research Institute. Karel's scholarly focus emphasizes the integration of graphic design practice, research, and education, highlighting their mutual relevance. Karel holds a PhD in Typography & Graphic Communication from the University of Reading and has both an MA in Graphic and Information Design from De Montfort University and a BA in Product Presentation from Design Academy Eindhoven.
