Markus Stiefel

Markus Stiefel was appointed Chief Operations Officer with effect from 1 March 2017 and member of the Corporate Solutions Executive Committee with effect from 1 July 2019.

In this function, Markus is responsible for leading Corporate Solutions' Operations across all regions. This includes developing the Business Unit's operations strategy, overseeing its operating platform globally and supporting implementation of its strategy.

Markus joined Swiss Re in 2017 and has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. He previously worked for XL Group, where he was Head of Global Operations P&C from January 2011 until May 2015, and a Managing Director and member of XL Group's Leadership Council from May 2011. Prior to that he was Chief Processing Officer International P&C, and Global Head of Operational Business Architecture, XL Insurance.

Before joining XL Group in 2001, Markus worked for Winterthur International from 1993 to 2001, where he held various roles of increasing responsibility. He started his career in 1985 in Construction Underwriting at Winterthur Insurance, Swiss Division.
