Alexia Akbay

Alexia Akbay has a diverse work experience in various fields. In 2015, they started as a Research and Development Intern at HealthMJ, where they played a crucial role in developing a platform for cancer patients using medicinal marijuana. Alexia conducted research, wrote articles, and contributed to daily summaries of new policies and research.

The following year, Alexia joined NYU Langone Medical Center as a Research Intern. During this time, they conducted literature reviews and analyzed qualitative data related to the role of socio-economic status in nutrition. Alexia also created codebooks for data analysis and performed reliability tests.

In 2016, they became a Clinical Intern at Health Leads, where they navigated the New York City public benefits system to connect disenfranchised populations with basic needs. Alexia helped clients resolve urgent issues and maintained a caseload of eight families.

In 2018, Alexia worked as an Environmental Justice Research Assistant at Yale Law School, supporting research on environmental justice issues. Alexia also served as an Endocrinology Research Assistant at the Yale University School of Medicine, where they evaluated the endocrine disrupting potential of chemicals and utilized computational models to predict metabolite activity.

In 2018, they joined Yale Openlab as a Blockchain Initiative Fellow. In this role, they organized and executed the first Yale Blockchain Bootcamp, providing technical skills development for over 125 students. Alexia also participated in design sprints and contributed to the creation of an open earth ledger for carbon accounting.

Most recently, Alexia founded and became the CEO of Symbrosia in 2019. As the founder and CEO, they are responsible for managing the company and its operations.

Alexia Akbay completed their education in a chronological manner. From 2013 to 2017, they attended New York University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Public Health. In 2014 and 2015, they also participated in a Turkish Language and Literature Certificate Program at Boğaziçi University. Moving forward, from 2017 to 2019, Alexia pursued further studies at the Yale School of Public Health, completing a Master of Public Health degree with a specialization in Environmental Health Sciences. Additionally, in May 2019, they obtained a certification as an Open Water Diver from PADI.
