Kathy Zantal-Wiener

Senior Principal, Training & Technical Assistance, Assessment & Evaluation at Synergy Enterprises, Inc.

Dr. Zantal-Wiener has more than 35 years of experience with literacy programs for students with disabilities, English learners, and students at risk of academic failure. She works with stakeholders—teachers, school leaders and decision makers at the federal, state and local levels, and undergraduate and graduate students—to develop clear instructional goals and expectations for all students. She currently manages the Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy (SRCL) project funded by the U.S. Department of Education. As Director of the National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition (NCELA), she developed an overall needs assessment and technical assistance (TA) plan to address the TA and training needs of practitioners and leaders at state education agencies and local education agencies, with a focus on increasing English language literacy and academic outcomes for English learners. In her various professional roles, Dr. Zantal-Wiener supports practices that measure students’ content knowledge, academic language, and literacy.
