Giacomo Indiveri has a long and varied work experience. Giacomo began their career in 1994 as a post-doctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology. There they learned about analog VLSI design from Tim Horiuchi, Jorg Kramer, and Carver Mead, as well as neuroscience and consciousness from Christof Koch and the k-lab colleagues. In 1996, they became a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, and also co-organized the Neuromorphic Engineering Workshop. In 1999, they became an assistant professor at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, where they studied neural processing and built neuromorphic cognitive systems using analog and digital VLSI circuits and systems. Giacomo held this position until 2011, when they became a professor at the University of Zurich. In 2017, they became the director of the Institute of Neuroinformatics, University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, and also co-founded SynSense and GrAI Matter Labs. In 2019, they became a professor at ETH Zürich.
Giacomo Indiveri obtained their Habilitation from ETH Zürich in 2006-2007 in the field of Neuromorphic Engineering. Giacomo then obtained their Ph.D from the University of Genoa in 2001-2004 in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Lastly, they obtained their Laurea degree from the University of Genoa in 1986-1992 in Electronic Engineering.
