Research Associate II at Synthetic Genomics

Michael Carlson has a diverse work experience that includes roles in research and laboratory work. Michael started their career at UC San Diego Extension as a Student Services Representative, where they provided customer service to students, collected payments, and processed enrollments. In 2018, they joined Viridos as a Laboratory Technician, supporting the Strain Development team with laboratory tasks and running assays to evaluate strain phenotypes. Michael later transitioned to the role of Research Associate, where they conducted nucleic acid extractions and purifications, amplified plasmid DNA, and developed a request system to streamline DNA requests. As a Research Associate II at Viridos, they are currently involved in transforming algae through particle bombardment and evaluating transgene expression using Western Blot analysis and ddPCR. Michael also contributed to the development of a new SOP for strain phenotypic evaluation.

From 2013 to 2018, Michael Carlson attended UC San Diego, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography.
