Mustafa Awayda MD, MPH, FACP has a diverse work experience in various healthcare organizations. Mustafa started in 1996 as the HIV Medical Director/Internist at Syracuse Community Health Center. In 1997, they became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Mustafa joined the Veteran Administration as the Chief Hospitalist in 2007 and also became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in the same year. From 2009, they served as the Medical Director at Rahma Health Clinic Syracuse. In 2014, they became an Associate Medical Director/UM Reviewer at Universal American, where they worked until 2016. Since 2016, they have been the Associate Medical Director at Molina Healthcare. Additionally, Dr. Awayda has also held roles as a Specialist at The American Academy of HIV Medicine and a Hospitalist at Crouse Health. In 2019, they became a Member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Mustafa Awayda MD, MPH, FACP has an extensive education history. Mustafa began their academic journey by obtaining a High School Diploma from International College in 1984. Mustafa then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology, General from the American University of Beirut, completing it in 1987.
Dr. Awayda's dedication to the medical field led him to join the American University of Beirut for their Residency in Internal Medicine, which they completed from 1987 to 1991. During this time, they also obtained their Doctor of Medicine degree from the same institution in June 1991.
To further specialize and expand their knowledge in the field, they pursued another Residency in Internal Medicine at the American University of Beirut from 1991 to 1993. This residency was followed by a Residency in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University from 1993 to 1996.
Dr. Awayda's pursuit of higher education continued as they obtained two Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees. The first was from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in 2010, with a focus on Public Health. The second was from Syracuse University in 2016, with a concentration in Health/Health Care Administration/Management from the Maxwell School.
Throughout their career, Dr. Awayda has also obtained several additional certifications. Mustafa became a Physician recognized by the New York State Education Department in March 1997. In January 2007, they achieved the status of HIV Specialist from The American Academy of HIV Medicine.
