Zachary Smith

Zachary Smith serves as an Adjunct Professor at Onondaga Community College since April 2023, instructing in the Fire Protection Program. Since July 2006, Smith has held the position of Deputy Chief at the Syracuse Fire Department, where responsibilities include fire suppression, rescue, EMS, public education, and inspection. Additionally, Smith actively participates as a 1900 Committee Member with the NFPA and owns First In Rigs Consulting, LLC, providing consulting services for fire departments in apparatus purchasing. Smith also serves as an Engineer for First Due Services, LLC, focusing on compliance with NFPA standards and quality audits. Previous experience includes roles as an Engineering Consultant at ISSI Technology Professionals, Design Engineer at Sutphen Corporation, and Designer at Tactair Fluid Controls Inc. Smith started the career with a co-op position as a Process Engineer at US Airways. Zachary Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, obtained between 1997 and 2001.
