Sysdig Welcomes Dan “Pop” Papandrea as Lead of Open source Community and Ecosystem

Sysdig Welcomes Dan “Pop” Papandrea as Lead of Open source Community and Ecosystem Secure DevOps leader Sysdig has added tech-world veteran Dan “Pop” Papandrea to its open source team. As Lead of Open Source Community and Ecosystem, Pop will focus on growing adoption and contributions for open source projects created by Sysdig, especially Falco. Following a 2018 Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) membership, Falco moved in January 2020 to an incubation-level hosted project. As he joins up with the San Francisco-headquartered firm, Pop will aim to streamline open source adoption and contribution and helping users share their best practices. Pop started his career at Comedy Central, where he worked behind the scenes to help troubleshoot technical issues for the writing staffs of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the Colbert Report, South Park, and others. He would then spend nearly 17 years with multinational financial services solution company SS&C Technologies, where he rose from Director IT to Presales Consultant in the company’s Global Solutions Management arm. Following a stint at Hewlett Packard, Dan linked up with Sysdig, where he has risen through the ranks for the past four years. Sysdig’s decision to add Pop to its open source team represents a redoubling of their commitment to open source. “Sysdig believes the open source community is driving the cloud software development stack,” read a press release. “Community-driven open source accelerates innovation, strengthens security, and enables organizations to standardize around common standards.” In the 2+ years since initiating its CNCF membership, contributors to Falco have grown 238 percent. It also boasts more than 20 million Docker Hub pulls, a quadrupling of GitHub Stars in 24 months, 20+ integrations, and a nineteenfold incense in contributors in the same timeframe. Entities as diverse as government agencies, financial institutions, Fortune 2000 enterprises and web-scale companies rely on Falco. In his spare time, Pop hosts a podcast, The POPCAST by Dan POP, which “explores the leaders, creators, and stories behind the code.”
