Gene Blakefield

Lead Animator at System Era Softworks

Gene Blakefield has a solid background in animation, with experience at multiple well-known game studios. Gene started their career as an animator at Smashing Ideas, where they worked on various Flash projects. Gene then moved on to Gas Powered Games, where they continued their animation work.

In 2002, Blakefield joined Microsoft Games Studios/Xbox as an animator, primarily focusing on reanimating mocap data for NHL Rivals 2004. After this, they worked at Sucker Punch Productions as an animator, contributing to projects like Sly 3 and Infamous.

Blakefield then joined Loose Cannon Studios as the Animation Lead, providing leadership and working on animation projects for the company. Gene later joined Bungie Studios as a contract animator for a brief period.

Gene'snext significant role was at PopCap Games, where they served as a Senior Animator for seven years. Gene was responsible for character animation, implementing animation assets, character design, and animation pipeline creation. Gene also worked on several games, such as Peggle 2, where they animated most of the Masters.

Currently, Blakefield is working as the Lead Animator at System Era Softworks, where they have been since 2017. In this role, they oversee animation projects and leads a team of animators.

Gene Blakefield completed a Bachelor's of Media Arts in Animation from the Academy of Art University from 1996 to 1997. Following that, from 1997 to 2000, they attended the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, where they also obtained a Bachelor's of Media Arts degree in Animation.
