Clayton Darwin PhD has held a variety of positions in the field of engineering and linguistics. Clayton began their career in 1984 as a Squad Leader in the US Army. In 1995, they became a Teaching Assistant at Central Washington University. Clayton then moved on to become a Visiting Professor of English at Tecnológico de Monterrey in 1997. In 1998, they began working at The University of Georgia as a Project Manager and Graduate Research Assistant. In 2004, they joined Crivella West as a Senior Linguist and Developer. In 2012, they started working as a Consultant for Text Processing, Analysis, and Project Design for their own company, Clayton Darwin. At the same time, they began working at Illocution Inc. as a Lead Developer. In 2011, they started their YouTube channel, ClaytonDarwin, which focuses on DIY robotics and electronics. In 2019, they became an IoT Developer at Technicity. Most recently, they have been working as a Principal Engineer at Acculon Energy since 2022.

Clayton Darwin PhD has an extensive educational background. Clayton began their studies in 1981 at Madison County High School, where they graduated in 1984. Clayton then attended Pierce College at Fort Steilacoom from 1989 to 1990, earning an Associate of Technology degree in General Studies. Clayton also obtained a Certificate in Airframe and Powerplant Aviation Maintenance Technician from Clover Park Technical College in 1988-1990. In 1991-1993, they attended the University of Washington, studying Chemistry. Clayton then went on to Central Washington University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with an English minor in 1993-1995 and a Master of Arts in English/Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language in 1995-1997. Finally, Clayton earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics from The University of Georgia in 1998-2008. Additionally, they obtained an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in October of 1990.
