Mário Barroca has a diverse work experience in the field of biotechnology. Mário started their career at the Universidade do Minho, where they completed a PhD in Molecular Biotechnology. During their time there, Mário focused on enhancing the biotechnological value of a cold-adapted xylanase and developed a green chemistry enzyme-based biorefinery system. Mário also gained skills in metabolic engineering for fatty acid synthesis and yeast culture and genetic engineering.
After their PhD, Mário worked as a Scientist at T-Cypher Bio, specializing in protein science. Mário contributed to the optimization of metabolic pathways for fatty acid production and unraveled the determinants of xylanase function and stability. Mário also developed methods for directed mutagenesis of proteins.
Currently, Mário holds the position of Scientist - Strain Engineer at SilicoLife, where they use their expertise to engineer strains. The details of this role were not provided.
