Travis Lantz is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in hardware and photonics engineering. Currently serving as Principal Design Engineer at Taara since March 2025, Travis is focused on advancing high-speed connectivity through innovative optical technologies. Prior to this role, Travis worked at X, the moonshot factory, as a Staff Hardware Engineer from February 2017 to May 2025, contributing to Project Taara. Travis's earlier experience includes a tenure at Google as a Hardware Engineer specializing in optoelectronics and photonics, and as a Photonics Engineer at Sierra Photonics, Inc., where expertise was applied in designing Free-Space Optical Communication systems. Travis began the engineering career as an Electrical Engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, after earning both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
