Mike Vollmer

Mike Vollmer has extensive experience in forestry and fire management. Mike currently serves as the Executive Director of the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, where they provide leadership and manages the Fire Adapted Communities program. Mike is responsible for budgeting, setting goals, grant management, building partnerships, and overseeing program implementation. Prior to this role, Mike worked as the Urban and Community Forester for the Nevada Division of Forestry, where they led the state-wide urban and community forestry program and provided technical assistance to partner agencies and communities. Mike also served as the Cooperative Forestry and Fire Supervisor for the division, managing grant programs and supervising staff. Before that, Mike worked as a Forester for the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, managing the Forest Fuels/Defensible Space Program and writing and managing federal grants. Mike also has experience in forest management and environmental improvement as the Forest Management/Environmental Improvement Program Manager for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. Mike has held various other roles throughout their career, including positions with consulting firms and the Nevada Fire Safe Council. Their expertise includes grant management, environmental compliance, and wildfire planning.

Mike Vollmer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Planning (with a Wildland Soils emphasis) from Humboldt State University, which they obtained between the years 1991 and 1995. Prior to that, they attended Orange Coast College from 1985 to 1991 and obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Psychology. In addition to their degrees, Mike Vollmer holds several certifications, including a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification from the International Society of Arboriculture, a California Registered Professional Forester certification from the California Board of Forestry, and a Certified Arborist certification from the International Society of Arboriculture.
