James Kempf

James Kempf is a seasoned professional in the field of technical theatre and design, currently serving as Technical Director and Director of Design Development at TAIT since 2019. Prior experience includes leading the design team at Brilliant Stages as Head of Design from 2015 to 2019, and directing design for automated rigging at Tait Towers between 2012 and 2015. James Kempf also held the positions of Director of Design and Engineering and Senior Technical Designer at Production Resource Group from 1997 to 2012. Additionally, a background as a stagehand and studio mechanic with IATSE from 1988 to 1994 further complements a robust career. Academic achievements include a Master’s Degree in Technical Theatre/Theatre Design and Technology from Yale University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Scenic and Lighting Design from Carnegie Mellon University.
