Zenda Bowie

Board Secretary at Talladega College

A native of Alabama, Ms. Zenda Bowie, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from her alma mater, Talladega College (1973). Ms. Zenda Bowie, has worked with her alma mater’s national alumni association for more than 20 years. Most recently, she served as National President from 2014 -2017.

Ms. Bowie was a member of the Fulton County Board of Education from 1990 – 2006. She represented the Board on the Fulton County Public Schools Foundation, the Fulton County Partners in Education Council (1992-1996), the Fulton County Schools Pension Board

(1991-1994), WXIA-TV's Keeping Kids First Advisory Council (1994-1999), the Board of Directors - Georgia School Boards Association (1996-2004) and Board of Trustees - Georgia School Boards Association Risk Management Fund.

Ms. Bowie’s career experience includes philanthropic activities with Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A, in New York City and health education programs for Fulton County Health Department in Atlanta, Georgia. She joined the American Lung Association as a health educator and retired as Chief Operating Officer for the Southeast Region after 27 years of service. She was the first minority president of the Congress of Lung Association Staff and did double duty for the national office of American Lung Association (ALA), working as interim Executive Director at the ALA of Washington, DC in 1997, while still working for the Georgia organization. In 2006, the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) recruited Ms. Bowie to work as Director of Field Services.
