Sergio E. Rivas has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of international development. Sergio E. started their career in 2000 as a Certified Cognizant Technical Officer at USAID/Bolivia, where they worked until 2007. In 2008, they joined ACDI/VOCA as a Senior Director, Alternative Development & Livelihoods. Throughout their time at ACDI/VOCA, Sergio held various roles, including Country Representative and Chief of Party, Regional Managing Director, and ultimately, President. In November 2022, they joined Tanager as President.

Sergio E. Rivas holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Industrial Engineering from Escuela Militar de Ingeniería, which they obtained from 1988 to 1992. Sergio E. then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Economic Development from Universidad Mayor de San Andrés from 1998 to 2000. Sergio also completed a Certificate in Project Management from the Harvard ManageMentor Program in 2011. In 2014, they obtained a Certificate in Peacebuilding and Reconciliation from Universidad EAN in Bogota, Colombia. Lastly, Sergio attended Cornell University in 2017, where they completed a Certificate in Executive Leadership.
