Akash Kashyap

Akash Kashyap is a Senior Software Engineer at Tandem. Akash previously worked at Google from November 2016 to July 2021, where they launched Stadia as part of the Social & Discovery team in 2019. Akash led the ingestion/distribution and content onboarding pieces for Stadia Explore (a personalized activity feed related to relevant users and games), and before that built Stadia's counter-abuse platform.

Before Stadia, Kashyap led product development for the next-gen partner portal at Google Play Movies & TV.

At Stadia (Java, Spanner, Flume, PubSub, Google stack), Kashyap led the design and implementation of the Explore ingestion service and distribution pipeline and contributed to the serving/ranking system, working closely with Product and UX to define product needs and definitions throughout the process. Akash also led Explore content onboarding, guiding other Stadia teams to integrate their features with Explore. In addition, Kashyap led the design/implementation of a follower social graph API, working with the Google graph database infra team to support writing/reading follow data throughout the entire Stadia platform. Akash also built a data processing pipeline to backfilling follow data for Stadia users. Kashyap also built the counter-abuse platform that supports reporting and proactive protections in features such as text chat and captures impacting millions of users.

At Play Movies & TV (Go, Spanner, Pubsub, Google stack), Kashyap led the design and implementation of a next-gen partner portal, building a data model and a custom data processing solution w/ UI that syncs with the ingestion pipeline to provide real-time user friendly views of video content and offer metadata, processing thousands of events per hour. The portal is used by studio and post-production house partners to manage and deliver millions of offers to date. Kashyap advocated for and implemented iterative design process with regular meetings and ux research with Hollywood studios and post-production houses to make sure our product addressed the most important customer needs first. Akash also contributed to the Entertainment Merchant Association’s industry-wide content metadata standard.

Akash Kashyap received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. Akash also attended Torrey Pines High School.

They are on a team with Patrick Dancel - Quality Assurance Engineer, Nikola Novakovic - Sr Software Engineer, and Ken Miller - Staff Software Engineer. Their manager is Tim Su, CTO.
