Nelson Sturgis is a qualified physician with extensive experience in the healthcare sector. Currently serving at Tandem Health since July 2006, Nelson Sturgis has contributed to patient care and medical practice for several years. Prior to this role, Nelson Sturgis worked at Sumter Family Health Center. Nelson Sturgis earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicine from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont, where education was completed from 1964 to 1968.

Tandem Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and accredited patient-centered medical home (PCMH) providing comprehensive, personalized healthcare services to the Sumter community at large regardless of their ability to pay. We are not a free clinic. Rather we offer a sliding fee scale to qualifying patients based on the size of their family and income to improve their access to the high quality healthcare services they deserve. We also accept most insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid, enhancing our ability to care for our local community.
