Matt Mekschun

Director of Controls and Computer Vision Engineering at Targan

Matt Mekschun has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Matt started their career at Madison Area Technical College, where they worked as a Laboratory Technician, providing maintenance and support for computer networks and repairing electronic instrumentation. Matt then joined GE (Marquette) Medical Systems as a Database Conversion Specialist/Production, where they tested, repaired, and ensured the quality of FDA regulated medical products.

After that, they worked at AIDEA as a Project Engineer, implementing barcode scanning, RFID, and automation technologies. Matt was responsible for design, integration, and troubleshooting of hardware and software. Matt then joined Square D / Schneider Electric as a Senior Field Applications Engineer, providing engineering resources to OEM customers and specializing in material handling.

Following their role at Square D / Schneider Electric, Matt worked at Barry-Wehmiller Design Group as a Senior Automation Engineer, where they performed onsite contract engineering and specialized in packaging line integration. Matt programmed Rockwell PLCs and HMI systems.

Afterward, they joined Axon Corp as a Senior Electrical Engineer, focusing on electrical design and controls implementation of packaging machinery. Matt balanced standardized machine designs with customer requirements and provided troubleshooting support to the production staff. Matt then moved on to Solara Automation as an Electrical and Controls Engineer, where they designed and installed custom industrial machinery with a focus on multi-robot work cells.

Matt returned to Cree as a Software Engineer III - Automation, where they designed and supported control and monitoring software for semiconductor processes. Matt worked on PC applications for custom user interfaces, data aggregation, and integration with databases.

Matt then joined Solara Automation again, this time as a Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer. Matt was involved in the electrical and control system design of custom industrial machinery, with a particular emphasis on robotics, machine vision, and safety systems.

Matt's most recent role is at TARGAN Inc., where they currently hold the position of Director of Controls and Computer Vision Engineering. Prior to this, they served as the Controls Engineering Manager, overseeing controls engineering operations. Before that, they worked as a Senior Controls Engineer.

Throughout their career, Matt has gained skills in electrical design, controls engineering, software development, project management, and integration of automation systems.

Matt Mekschun completed their education in two different institutions. Matt began their academic journey in 1993 at Madison Area Technical College, where they pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. This program lasted for two years, and they graduated in 1995 with an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) degree.

Following this, they continued their studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1999 to 2002. During this period, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
