Target was founded by George Draper Dayton as the "Dayton Dry Goods Company" in 1902. Before their first store front opened in 1962, they had considered more than 200 names and in an effort to embrace a goal of "hitting the center bulls-eye" with consumer needs, they envisioned a "Target" with the infamous red and white colors. This would go on to be the named used for their first Target store opening. Today, they are one of the largest general merchandise retailers in America. Target is very unique in terms of how they curate their products for customers. They want to make sure that they are providing customers with what they want and need. They carefully select every national or only-at-Target item sold in their stores and occasionally, they will partner with a designer, brand, limited edited collection, or other popular brands to better highlight the collection and goods they offer. Target has more than 45 private labels to choose from including from well-known names such as A New Day, Kona Sol, All in Motion, Made By Design, Art Class, Market Pantry, Auden, AVA & VIV, More Than Magic, Boots & Barkley, Opalhouse, Brightroom, Open Story, Original Use, Casaluna, Pillowfort, and many more. Overall, they sell a large variety of merchandise including Food & beverages, Apparel & accessories, Baby, Household essentials, Home decor, Furniture, Patio & Garden, Kitchen & dining, Toys, Electronics, and others. They make sure to customize the clothing and households to the neighborhood and local area.
