Johannes (Hansie) Odendaal

Johannes (Hansie) Odendaal has over 30 years of work experience in software engineering, system engineering, and control systems. In 2018, they began working as a Senior Rust Developer and Head of Research at Tari Labs, where their objective is to bring blockchain and crypto closer to normal non informed end users and to make it easy to use. From 2014-2018, they worked as a System Engineer at Denel Land Systems, where they were part of the engineering team producing the product baseline for the Badger infantry fighting vehicle for the South African National Defence Force. From 2011-2014, they worked as a Chief Nuclear Software Engineer and Engineering Support at PBMR SOC Ltd, where they were responsible for capturing and packaging PBMR's intellectual property. From 2005-2011, they worked as a Chief Nuclear Software Engineer at Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (Pty) Limited. From 2001-2005, they worked as a Chief Nuclear Software Engineer, V&V Process Engineer, and Simulator Design Engineer at PBMR (Pty) Ltd. From 2001-1998, they worked as a System Engineer at ADS and BSW Data, where they were involved in systems engineering efforts for the SAN Patrol Corvette program and solutions crafting, project planning, and quality assurance in proposals. From 1998-1994, they worked as a System Engineer at Dimension Data iCommerce Services, where they were involved in projects such as demonstration customer contact centre project definition, Virtual routing concept demonstration project for Telkom, and Standard Bank Call Centre migration project. From 1994-1990, they worked as a Dynamic Simulator Modelling Engineer at ADS, where they were responsible for identifying, developing, coding and testing of dynamic aircraft and subsystem models from flight test data. Finally, from 1990-1998, they worked as a Control Systems Specialist at Houwteq, where they were responsible for structural vibration mode analysis in the pointing (photography) control loop of satellite, consolidation and design of attitude and orbit control system logic, and noise characterisation on the inertial measurement sensor.

Johannes (Hansie) Odendaal attended High School Ferdinand Postma from 1981 to 1985. Johannes (Hansie) then attended North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit, where they obtained a B.Eng. in Electric and Electronic Engineering from 1986 to 1989, an M.Eng in Control Systems and System Identification from 1991 to 1994, and an M.Eng - Cum Lauda in Nuclear Engineering from 2005 to 2007.
