Hans van den Berg is an experienced leader in the steel industry, currently serving as Chair of the Board for Tata Steel Nederland BV and Managing Director at Tata Steel IJmuiden since November 2010. Previous roles at Tata Steel include Hub Director and Director of Manufacturing for Strip Products in Mainland Europe. Prior to joining Tata Steel, Hans van den Berg held multiple managerial positions at Corus from 1996 to November 2010, including Worksmanager for the Direct Sheet Plant and Cold Mill 2. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Physics from Leiden University and an MBA from Nyenrode Business University.

Green steel in a clean environment, without the use of coal. Working at Tata Steel Netherlands means working on the biggest transition in steel production ever. Together with 12,000 colleagues, we are working on and investing in the biggest industrial transition in the Netherlands. In doing so, we are changing the heart of our production process. We are going to make steel on the basis of hydrogen. By doing so, we expect to emit 35% to 40% less CO2 by 2030. Our goal is to produce completely CO2-neutral steel by 2045.
