Nuno Carvalho has a diverse and extensive work experience in the fields of technology, data engineering, and research. Nuno started their career at the University of Lisbon, where they worked as a Research Scientist, focusing on distributed systems and database replication. Nuno then joined INESC-ID as a Research Scientist, where they continued their work on distributed transactional memory systems.

In 2011, Carvalho moved to Fujitsu, where they served as a Senior Researcher. Here, they designed and implemented a scalable graph storage system for RDF open datasets using technologies like HBase and ElasticSearch.

Carvalho later joined Brave Bison as a Data Engineer, where they contributed to software development on Big Data and Analytics projects using Scala, Spark, and AWS. Nuno also worked with a small team and followed SCRUM practices in managing projects.

In 2015, Carvalho joined Infosistema as a Scala Tech Lead and Data Engineer. Nuno played a crucial role in bootstrapping a team for projects focused on Big Data, Distributed Systems, and Machine Learning. Nuno managed a team of developers and incubated the Morphing Portals project, which eventually became a spinoff company.

After leaving Infosistema, Carvalho worked at Morphing Portals as the CTO. Nuno managed a team of 5 people and used SCRUM practices to build a cloud-based product that utilized Machine Learning for personalization and improved website conversion rates. The product included services for data streaming, real-time decision making, and reporting, all deployed on the Azure platform.

Carvalho then joined Streamhub as a Senior Data Engineer, before taking on their current role as CTO at tb.lx by Daimler Trucks & Buses. In their current position, they are involved in building a new technology hub for Daimler, focused on creating global services for the commercial vehicle industry. Nuno Carvalho has an extensive education history in computer science. Nuno obtained their PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Lisbon from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, they completed their MSc in Computer Science from the same university from 2002 to 2005. Their undergraduate degree, a Graduation in Computer Science, was also obtained from the University of Lisbon from 1998 to 2002.

In addition to their formal education, Nuno Carvalho has also obtained several certifications. Nuno completed a course on Big Data Analysis with Scala and Spark from Coursera in April 2017. In November 2014, they obtained a certification in Functional Programming Principles in Scala, also from Coursera Verified Certificates. Furthermore, they completed a course on Introduction to Data Science from Coursera in September 2014.
