Nick Thomson

Nick Thomson serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission since October 2018, leading core functions including Finance, People & Culture, Information Technology, and Business Support. Thomson has a distinguished background in financial capability and learning, having held roles such as Director of Financial Capability and Director of Learning within the same organization. Previous experience includes strategic leadership positions at Competenz from 2011 to 2018, where Thomson focused on industry training, learning design, and product development. Prior to that, significant operational roles were held at Restaurant Brands Ltd from 2005 to 2011, overseeing various regions and brands including KFC and Starbucks Coffee. Thomson holds a Bachelor of Applied Management in Strategic Management from Otago Polytechnic and has completed multiple certifications in business, project management, and education.
